Making Change Group, Hampton

Making Change is a substance support group for young people who are considering or committed to recovery. It is a starting place for dialog about choices and the impact that high risk choices have on themselves and others. The group offers information, motivation and peer support to address critical issues of early recovery from substance abuse for young people.

The following topics have recently been discussed at recent gatherings:

  • Safety issues related to use of substances and evaluating those risk
  • What kind of support may be helpful
  • Who may be helpful
  • How to take the initial steps in getting support
  • Information about addiction and recovery
  • Alternatives to substance use
  • Understanding "triggers" and how to combat them

Making Change is facilitated by Barry Timmerman, LADC, LCMHC, Substance Abuse Services Coordinator at OdysseyNH. Timmerman has been trained as a "Making Change" facilitator and has years of experience facilitating groups for teens struggling with substance abuse issues. 

The group which is held each Thursday at the OdysseyNH Academy, 150 High Street, Hampton, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. is open and free to the public.
